This page provides all the (JAMB) UTME requirements and subject combinations you need to look out for in Petroleum Engineering at any NUC accredited university in Nigeria.
This page covers:

  • WASSCE (O’Level) Subject combination and Requirements for Petroleum Engineering.

  • Direct Entry Subject combination and Requirements needed to study Petroleum Engineering.

  • JAMB (UTME) Subjects Combinations and requirements needed to study Petroleum Engineering in any NUC accredited university in Nigeria.

And every other useful information that will help you make a better choice so you can gain admission effortlessly.

Aside from Law, Medicine, and Surgery, Petroleum Engineering is one of the most sorts after courses amongst young school leavers in Nigeria.

Please carefully read all the necessary requirements needed to study Petroleum Engineering before proceeding to apply for either the UTME or DIRECT ENTRY for the said course.

To study Petroleum Engineering in any accredited university or polytechnic in Nigeria, here is the Jamb and Waec subject combination and requirements you need to look out for.

JAMB UTME Subject Combination

Note that English Language is Compulsory for all courses in UTME.

Therefore the other three (3) subjects you need to study petroleum Engineering are Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics

Requirements for Direct Entry Applicants

To apply for petroleum engineering as a direct entry candidate, you will need the following: “A” Level passes in these subjects physics, chemistry, and mathematics.

Special Requirements (Exception) Remarks

(i) OSUSTECH accepts first degree from any (NUC) accredited university in relevant subjects and not below second degree.

ii) ABUAD accepts HND (lower credit) and ND (higher credit) with UTME level 200 requirements.

(iii) FUTO requires a minimum of three Level “A” passes, which are no lower than Level C in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry. It also accepts ND / HND at a higher credit level in mechanical engineering with “O” level requirements. Also, FUTO does not accept NCE or first degree.

(iv) UNIBEN – In addition to UTME requirements, it requires:
a) You need a first degree or second class lower in any related or relevant field either in agriculture, medicine, dentistry, or pharmacy and PTI HND (lower credit) / ND (higher credit) in an accredited institution.
b) HND (higher credit) in engineering/technology and PTI HND (higher credit) at 300 levels.
c) ND / HND holders must have an “A” grade in mathematics.

(v) UNIBEN accepts HND (lower credit) and ND (higher credit) requests as well as UTME applications.

(vi) UNIUYO accepts ND / HND in relevant fields in addition to UTME requirements.

(vii) RSUST as in Computer Engineering.

(viii) IGBINEDION accepts two A-level credits for physics and one for mathematics and chemistry.

(ix) BAUCHI accepts ND / HND in technical areas related to UTME requirements.

(x) NTNU accepts two A levels in sciences, ND / HND (lower level) or NCE (merit) subjects in their respective fields.

(xi) FUTO requires a minimum of three “A” passages, which are not lower than level C in physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Also requires ND / HND at a higher credit level in Mechanical Engineering with “O” level requirements.

O’Level Requirements for UTME Candidates

To apply for Petroleum Engineering as a UTME (JAMB) candidate, you will need five(5) WASSCE credits including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English, and any other science-related subjects.

Special Requirements (Exception) Remarks

(i) FUTO and UI accept ND / RNI with a higher credit level.

(ii) The University of Ibadan accepts 2 levels “A” in physical and
Mathematics and UTME Requirements. Also, accept
ND / GNI at the highest credit level {65%} was accepted at the highest level of 200/300 plus UTME requirements. Knowledge of further mathematics will be an added advantage for all engineering courses.

(iii) OSUSTECH requires at least a credit pass in further mathematics.

(iv) NDU requires the completion of five (5) O level passes to include; English, Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and any other relevant subjects in not more than two sittings.
