The University of Benin, UNIBEN as it is fondly called is an internationally-recognized Nigerian university. UNIBEN is one of Nigeria’s first generation federal universities, located in the ancient city of Benin, Edo State, Nigeria. The University of Benin was established in 1970. UNIBEN currently boasts of about two campuses consisting of fifteen faculties including a central library called John Harris Library. The university offers various undergraduate courses/programs.
The University of Benin courses are fully accredited and recognized by the National University Commission (NUC) a body overseeing tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

UNIBEN Admission Requirements
- Candidates who scored 180 and above in UTME are eligible for UNIBEN’s POST-UTME screening exercise.
- Candidates who chose the University of Benin as their First Choice of institution in UTME.
- Candidates with a minimum of at least (5) O’ level credit passes in relevant subjects (including English Language and Mathematics) at GCE O’Level, WASCE, SSCE, NECO or approved equivalents at not more than 2 sittings.
- Interested candidates must be at least 16 years of age.

If you have found your desired course, you can enrol in the Bachelor’s degree programs either through the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), by Direct Entry, or through the Pre-degree Programme.
Basically, the purpose of the entry requirement is to ensure that those admitted have the necessary preparedness to scale through the program. There is a compulsory screening test for all eligible candidates.
