To study Education and Economics in any accredited university or polytechnic in Nigeria, here is the Jamb and Waec subject combination and requirements you need to look out for.
Note that English Language is Compulsory for all courses in UTME.
The UTME Subjects includes;
Economics, Mathematics and any one other subject from Geography/Physics, History, Government and Literature in English.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
- DELSU requires two of Geography, Physics, Mathematics and Government.
- UNIBEN accepts any other subject as the fourth subject.
- TASUED requires Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography, Commerce and Accounting.
- LASU requires Geography.
- EBSU requires Biology as the third subject.
- ABSU accepts CRK/IRS and any two subjects.
- OOU requires Economics or Mathematics and any two (2) other Social Science subjects.
- UNILAG requires one (1) other subject from Geography, Government and Accounting.
- KSU accepts Mathematics, Economics and any of Social Science or Commercial subjects.
- MAIDUGURI requires Economics, Mathematics and one (1) other subject from Geography, Physics, History, Government and Literature in English.
O’Level Requirements
You require;
Five (5) WASSC credit passes to include English Language, Economics and Mathematics.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION (WAIVER) REMARKS
- UDUSOK requires candidates without credit in Mathematics to take and pass Basic Mathematics.
- UNILORIN accepts a pass in Mathematics.
- ABSU, UNIJOS and UNIABUJA accepts ‘O’ level pass in Mathematics but such candidates may be required to pass a remedial course in the 1st year.
- OAU requires O’ level credit passes in five subjects which must include English Language, Mathematics & Economics plus any other two (2) subjects or Five (5) TC II credit/merit passes must include English Language, Mathematics and Social Studies.
- UNIBEN requires any other Social Science subject in addition to Economics.
- EKSU requires two Social Science subjects.
- TASUED requires Five (5) ‘O’ level credits at one sitting or six (6) ‘O’ level credits at two (2) sittings in English, Mathematics, Economics and any two/three Science or Social Science.
- UNIOSUN requires Senior Secondary School Certificate (WASSC) or its equivalents with credit level passes in five (5) subjects: English Language, Mathematics and Economics to form the core subjects, with credit in three (3) other relevant Art or Social Science subject at not more than two (2) sittings. The candidate must earn an acceptable score in the UTME
- EBSU Five (5)
O
level credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Biology and any other social science subject. - UNILAG requires two (2) other subjects from Geography, Government and Accounting.
- AAUA requires five (5) ‘O’ Level credit passes to include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any of Commerce, Geography and Government.
- LCITY accepts ‘O’ Level credit passes at SSC or its equivalent in English Language, Economics, Mathematics and any other two (2) Social Science subjects.
- DELSU requires at least five (5) ‘O’ Level credits which must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two (2) other Social Science subjects.
Direct Entry Requirements
You require;
i. Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics and one (1) other relevant subject.
ii. NCE credit/merit level passes in Economics and one (1) other subject.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATION REMARKS
- UNICAL accepts NCE with credit or merit passes in Economics and one (1) other subject.
- UI – accepts NCE graduates from all affiliated Colleges of Education into 300 level.
- UNIUYO requires credit in Mathematics.
- UNILAG accepts:
(a) Very good passes in three JUPEB (3) subjects: Economics, Mathematics and one (1) other subject from Geography, Government and Accounting.
(b) Two (2) A’ Level passes in Economics and one other subject from Geography, Government, and Commerce.
(c) NCE: Merit passes in Economics and one other subject from Geography, Government and accounting
(d) Candidates must also satisfy the O’ Level requirement. - LASU accepts NCE (Merit) in Account or Business Education.
- BIU same as Business Education
- TASUED accepts Two ‘A’ level/NCE Merit in Economics and any one (1) of Mathematics, Statistics,Geography, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government.
- OAU accepts two (2) ‘A’ Level credit passes in Economics & one other Social Sciences subject or NCE credit/merit passes in two (2) teaching or
Professional subject. NCE Business Studies/Accounting (double major or combined with any teaching subject) is also acceptable. - EBSU requires NCE/Two ‘A’ level passes in Economics, Mathematics or social studies.
- ABSU requires credit pass in English.
- AAUA requires
(a) two (2) ‘A’ Level passes in Economics and one (1) other relevant subject
(b) NCE merit in Economics, Business Education and one (1) other subject.
(c) ND credit in Banking and Finance, Economics and Accounting. - ILORIN Direct Entry; General English at NCE level is not acceptable as a replacement for ‘O’ Level credit pass in English Language.
- DELSU requires NCE merit passes in Economics and any relevant Social Science subject.
