Chief Akintola Williams was born in the UK in 1919 and received his early education in Lagos, Nigeria. He pursued higher education in England, obtaining a diploma in commerce and later a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of London. In 1949, he became the first Nigerian to qualify as a chartered accountant in England.

In 1952, he founded Africa’s first indigenous chartered accounting firm, Akintola Williams & Co, in Lagos. He played a key role in establishing the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria and served as its first president. He also contributed to the formation of the Association of Accountants in Nigeria and the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Chief Akintola Williams received several honors, including the Order of the Federal Republic from the Nigerian government in 1982 and the Commander of the British Empire title from Queen Elizabeth in 1997. He celebrated his 104th birthday with recognition from President Bola Tinubu. Additionally, he was the elder brother of Chief Frederick Rotimi Alade Williams, the first Nigerian to become a Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
